Rough translation of LUNCH TIME:

'If you expect a free lunch forget it! There is no such thing. You must earn everything!
A hungry man can be dangerous'.
Thought: Are we a hungry team?

During the first week of Summer Workouts Coaches Dye, Schuh, Smrekar, and Fuhrman spent time giving an orientation on the safety requirements and lift techniques to be used during the 'JABs' workouts held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Above: Coach Schuh demonstrates a life technique.

Right: Neil Corrigan on a lift.

Below: There are 11 lift stations in the new weight room facility. Athletes work in groups of three to four. The emphasis is on intensity. Coach Smrekar [below right] times a lifter and also times the down time when weights are adjusted and a new lifter steps in. A priority on time and the proper use of equipment is a constant stress.

Any Parker student is welcome to partiticpate in the JABs progam but participants must perform all warmups and the lifts which are outlined in the Summer Workout Booklets. The lifts are different for each day of the week. Also, besides the lifting routines athletes work on speed and agility drills outside or in the field house which is adjacent to the weight room.

Athletes are expected to have a spotter(s) either behind or off to the side during each lift. Prior to any lifts athletes participate in warmup activities [below left] and are expected to record [below] each lift they perform during their workout.

The movies on the left and right and the photograph below are from the night workouts.

The morning workouts start at 7:30 AM and are segmented into three different sessions that end at noon.

The night workouts are from 5 to 7 PM.

Sessions run on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Art Work Donated To Parker

An article in the Janesville Gazette [July 10, 2008] detailed progress made on the construction additions done by Janesville contractor J.P. Cullen & Sons at Craig and Parker. The projects were part of a $70.8 million referendum approved by Janesville voters. Each school has their logo in the form of a sculpture incorporated into the brickwork of the athletic facility. J. P. Cullen & Sons and Janesville Brick and Tile donated the sculptures which were ordered from Ohio artist Sherrell Lynn Stingel.

Stingel carved parts of the Viking mascot on each brick while the brick was still wet. She then numbered the bricks and fired them before they were shipped to Janesville. J.P. Cullen masons then added the 'Viking bricks' as they built the walls of the athletic facility at Parker.

Janesville community members donated the weight room equipment that Craig and Parker now have in their weight rooms.

The sculpture above is seen by parents and athletes each day that they arrive at Parker. It is a reminder of what people in the Janesville community have done to present students and athletes with a first class facility. Using the new athletic facilities is a priviledge and athletes are expected to maintain the building and equipment so that future generations of students and athletes can have the same benefits that students now have.
