Five Way Tie With One Game To Go

Parker Homecoming Game, Friday, October 16, 2009: Parker 36, Madison Memorial 22




Verona and Madison Memorial came into game 8 of the Big '8' conference season tied for first with 6-1 records. However Sun Prairies win [14-13] over Verona and the Vikings win over the Spartans from Memorial left Parker, Middleton, Sun Prairie, Memorial, and Verona tied for the Big '8' lead with 6-2 records with one game to go. Parker travels to Middleton on Wednesday night, October 21, for a 7 PM game against the Cardinals.


In a game featuring several lead changes the Vikings found themselves behind 8-6 in the second quarter against the high powered Spartans from Memorial. Parker took a 14-6 halftime lead on a 2 pt conversion by Adam Vesterfelt [above] after Calvin Nauer caught a 25 yard TD pass from Tyler Teubert.

The game against Madison Memorial was Parker's Homecoming Game. Cheerleader Coach Lynn Weilbrenner and her cheer squad sold T-shirts with the Homecoming slogan of "Let's Get Wild!."


Parker mascot Victor Viking looked on as the lead see-sawed back and forth during the game.


Despite a pancake block by Memorial's Ed Kluender [6' 7, 260, #72] Coach Dick Schuh's defense kept the pressure on Spartan QB Mike Moss. Sophomore defensive tackle Trever Steinke tackles Moss in first half action.

The week to week improvement of Coach Mike Furhrmann's offensive line has led to the success of the Parker running game. The 'O' line consists of LT Hayden Simonis [77], LG Cody Colson [64], center Tyler Brossard [57], RG Lucas Wimmer[55], RT Jacob Johnson [60], and TE Calvin Nauer [88].

At the 3:21 mark of the third quarter Memorial took a 15-14 lead on a 6 yard Jordan Frederick run. The Vikings answered with 35 seconds left in the third quarter on a 4 yard Adam Vesterfelt [20] run [below]. Vesterfelt also ran for the 2 point conversion as Parker took a 22-14 lead into the fourth quarter.
