Cardinals Early Start Too Much To Overcome

The Sun Prairie VFW Post 9362 presented the Colors before the game played at Ashley Field. The Viking offense came alive late in the game cutting the 28-7 Cardinal lead to 28-21 before Sun Prairie stopped a Parker drive with less than a minute left in the game. Both teams now have 3-2 records in the Big '8' Conference. Above: Cody Colson helps open a running lane for Adam Vesterfelt [20].


The Viking offensive line prepares to block for the one yard run by Adam Vesterfelt which made the score 28-21 with 5:11 remaining in the game. The score was set up by two big plays. With Parker on its own 14 yard line quarterback Tyler Teubert threw a pass that traveled 48 yards in the air and was caught when Parker receiver Joe Allen outjumped a Cardinal defender on the Sun Prairie 45 yard line [below left]. After a run gained 3 yards Teubert found tight end Calvin Nauer for a 41 yard gain to the Sun Prairie 1 yard line [below right].



Despite falling behind early the Vikings never stopped competing. Devon Hills is pictured above in second half action.

With 1:11 remaining and facing a 4th and 12 Tyler Teubert found Aaron Ackerman open. Ackerman [right] made a shoe-string catch for a 12 yard gain and a first down on the 45 yd line.


At the 9:39 mark of the fourth quarter Tyler Teubert found Cody Taber open for a 59 yard TD pass that narrowed the Cardinal lead to 28-14. Jacob Johnson [60], Lucas Wimmer [55] and the rest of the Parker offensive line gave Teubert enough time to make the touchdown throw.


Cardinal running back Sean Marshall [32] a 5' 10, 220 lb senior, proved to be an elusive player as he ran for 231 yards and two touchdowns. In the picture above during first half action Marshall is shown being held to a short gain by the Viking defense.

Defensive tackle Trever Steinke [68] a 6' 3, 230 sophomore is shown on the left during the second half. Justin Casey [21] made an aggressive 1 on 1 tackle to stop a Cardinal kick return in the second half. Teammate Chad Anacker [34] is pictured above getting help arranging his jersey during the same play.


Collin Burkheimer [27] is shown [above left] tackling Sun Prairie's Sean Marshall on a second half kick return. Ryan Shelton [6] and Ross Hanson [42] move in to help on the tackle. M Jay Bouska [above right] comes up to stop Marshall late in the fourth quarter. Bouska's tackle forced a Sun Prairie punt giving the Vikings a chance at tying the game.
