Two Fourth Quarter Scores Lift Vikings To Win

Parker Vikings 20, Madison West Regents 12, Thursday, September 16, 2010 At Monterey Stadium





Two evenly matched teams paired up in a bruising game at Monterey Stadium in week four of Big '8 Conference action. After a scoreless first quarter the Vikings scored at the 11:57 mark of the second quarter on an Adam Vesterfelt one yard run [above]. The Regents of Madison West took a 12 - 7 lead into halftime. Two fourth quarter touchdowns lifted the Vikings to a 3 -1 record in conference play.


First half action: Kiefer Omelian [above left, 10] tackled the receiver on the goal line to prevent a two-point conversion after West scored on a two yard run to take a 12-7 lead with 37 seconds left in the first half. Brad Money [above center, 46] chases West QB Alex Merwald. Above right: As West sets their wedge the Vikings cover the kickoff after Parker's TD in the second quarter.


After Parker took a second quarter lead 7- 0 West scored on a five yard run at the 6:51 mark of the second quarter. A key defensive play was made by Max Monson [above, 54] as he blocked the West 'PAT' preserving a 7-6 Viking lead.


West's Malcomb Wilson [32] is pictured in the second quarter plowing through a host of Vikings. Parker's Sam Fischer [52] finally slowed Wilson until his teammates helped on the tackle. Wilson gained 62 yards in the game.

Offensive lineman Creed Knutson [85], Jordan Hart [76], Jeff Henke [65], and center Tyler Brossard break the huddle in the fourth quarter.


Decker Thomspon [above left] is stopped by West's Julius Hill [33]. Cody Taber [above right, 33] eyes a pass thrown by Decker Thompson at the end of the third quarter. Taber's 10 yard reception gave Parker a crucial first down and kept a drive alive that led to the Vikings go ahead score at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Above left: The Parker offensive line came alive in the second half against a tough Regent run defense. Their blocking enabled Parkers backs to gain positive yardage. Adam Vesterfelt is pictured above right scoring on a six yard run with 10:06 remaining in the fourth quarter. The TD gave a Parker a 13-12 lead. West prevented the 2-point conversation.

In the first half the Regents moved the ball well against the Vikings. However Parker's defense improved in the second half. After Parker took a 13-12 lead West moved deep into Parker territory. On a crucial 4th and 4 down the Vikings held [left]. In the fourth quarter Parker's field position improved [below].
